Instagram continues to push fresh advertising

Back in June, we saw Instagram lean towards becoming a go-to social media network for real-time media. They achieved a new status by adding a revamped explore tab, trending places and tags as well as a places search. With the real-time element down, Instagram are back working on their advertisement features.

Apple recently announced that their latest iPhone models (6s and above) will have a new feature, 3D Touch. Similar to Force Touch on Apple Watch, the latest feature presents an alternative shortcut action similar to right clicking on a PC desktop. A drop-down menu of “Quick Actions” appear when you deep press an app that supports “3D Touch”. As demonstrated in the video below:

Why is this relevant? Instagram are one of many apps out there which are starting to embrace Apple’s ‘3D Touch’ display. The new system allows users to access shortcuts thus enabling the user interface to be streamlined! One way 3D Touch will benefit the Facebook-owned service is through the Camera App. Upon clicking, taking a Selfie will be one of the options available which will then open the front facing camera for Instagram users.

Instagram will also be adding other new features too. This update will also include 30-second video ads, new action buttons such as ‘Install Now’, ‘Sign Up’ and ‘Shop Now’.

This move is an attempt to make their app even more appealing to marketers, as it rolls out these advertising offers to a host of new countries later this month. In conjunction with this, Facebook have also updated WhatsApp to take advantage of 3D Touch as well.
