GIFS on Twitter are on trend, especially for brands

Move over, emojis. GIFs are the latest online engagement tool now.

Back in June, we were delighted to see the long-awaited arrival of GIFs across the Twittersphere. We’ve seen everything from cat, dancing, tv and just plain weird GIFs. But now we seem to seem to be in the middle of some kind of GIF renaissance with brands getting involved too.

More and more companies, brands and even television channels are not only utilising but nailing the art of the GIF by building branded content.

Comedy Central

Comedy Central air a huge amount of varied content on their channel so they have a lot of material to work with. The channel did an excellent job keeping fans engaged during the run-up to #FriendsFest tickets and even tried to console them when they sold out through GIFs from the show.  The event is happening this week and they’re still utlilising Friends-themed GIFs.

They even get creative and use GIFs when commenting on current celebrity affairs.

Starbucks

Another great example of branded GIF content can be seen in Starbucks’ latest campaign. Today marks the first day of Pumpkin Spice season for the brand, and they’re celebrating with creative GIFs, a hashtag as well as inviting consumers to post a snap of their Autumn-themed cup.

You may be wondering, how does this pay off for the brand? In the last week alone, #PSL has been used 13,604 and counting.

GIFs are definitely a tweet’s best friend.
